George Violl

George Violl was born in Chudleigh, where his father Samuel was a surgeon, in 1718. In 1748 Joan Moor (nee Wedlock), a widow, had an illegitimate son named George in Chudleigh. George Violl agreed to provide a bond for his maintenance.

He is shown as living in Bow Village in 1781, when a list of all the inhabitants of the parish was made, and the land tax returns show that he lived at Winsor House at least from 1780 to 1787 when he appears to have left the village.

He is recorded as being sued for assault by George White of Bow between 1764 and 1765. At that time Violl (or Voyall or Vyoll) was described as "Surgeon of Bow".

Also in 1785 and 1791 he is recorded to have purchased "dark grey" wigs from Silvester Treleavan in Moretonhampstead.
