For almost 200 years there had been a doctor resident in Bow. I was the twenty-ninth.

This is our story

THE MEDICAL GENTLEMEN OF BOW

Mashford graves

The Mashford Family Graves in Coldridge

The Mashford graves surround an old yew tree at the East end of St Matthew's Church.

The tomb stone for Mary Mashford (née Labbett -died 1834) is well preserved. The epitaph reads:

With patience his afflicting rod

She meekly did sustain

Untill it pleased her gracious God

To set her free from pain.

Right: The tomb stone for Jane and Josiah Mashfords' grave faces towards the tree.

In Memory of Jane Mashford

Who died 31 July 1860

Aged [63] years

Also Josiah her

Husband [Coldridge] Parish

Clerk who died Feby 8

1871 aged 73 years

His end was peace

Below Left: The stone for John Mashford ( d 1834) is to the right of his wife Mary's (top) and had been broken in half by the growing tree.

Below Right: This stone on the far side of the tree is very weathered and probably is that of Lancelot Mashford, infant son of Josiah and Jane, who died in 1835
