Mottram Andrews and his family

In 1872, Frances Hicks Warren, daughter of William, married Mottram Fellowes Andrews in Barnstaple. He had just resigned as a Supernumerary Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment Duke of Lancaster's Own Militia. He died nine years later in Belfast.

His father was Lieut- Colonel Mottram Andrews of the 28th Foot (North Gloucester) Regiment (see below).

They had three children: Sidney Llewellyn Mottram Andrews was born in 1876 in Plympton, Devon but only lived a few weeks.

Their only daughter, Avis Fellowes Mottram Andrews was born in 1879 in York but died in Newcastle upon Tyne aged 12 years.

William de Mey Mottram Andrews was born in Plymouth in 1873. He was a Trumpeter in the 1st Royal Dragoons during the Boer War; was awarded the South Africa Medal with clasps for Tudela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith before he died of Typhoid in 1900 at Modder Spruit. There is a memorial bearing his name in the Elandslaagte Naval Cemetery and in Truro Cathedral (below).

Frances Andrews arranged for the window in memory of her children to be installed in Bow Church in 1901, where there is also a plaque with their names (below). She died suddenly in Southport, Lancashire, aged 63 in 1905. The newspaper reported that she was interred in the family vault at Bow Church, although she in fact has her own grave there. The only family member at her funeral was a distant relative, Frances Norrish (née Bussell) of Colebrooke.
